Anyone ever come up with a good way to rebuild the worn cam ramps on pedals? Hate to scrap a bunch of them if way to repair. Thanks Dan

The only way I know of is to take the shafts out of the pedals and build up the ramps with weld. I have done a few first gear pedals. It takes a deal of time, patience, bearing blue and care grinding/filing the spiral on the ramp to engage with a new notch on both sides at a time and over the full face of the ramp. The reward is a pedal with the correct amount of free travel/ clutch freeplay while restoring the pedal to the correct height and relationship with the rest.

Thanks Allen but. Clutch aka high/low pedal has cam and slow speed notch inside and are both reproduced for US LHD cars.
It is the reverse and Brake pedal that have cams made in the pedal.
Easy way for brake is to get a Rocky Mountain brake pedal I guess.

Anyone found an easy for the other pedals?

Dan, on our RHD cars the clutch/first gear is internally adjustable, like your brake and reverse. The same build up and grind method works, even better on your pedals, because you can do the build-up to make a neat fit to a new notch. I did just that on my first clutch pedal. Then I had to rework the repair to get back the necessary free play so that I could find neutral, between low gear and high. I only did this once!

Hi Dan,
This is just for those that are as cheap or cheaper than I am. I only do this if I have a matched set (pedal & cam ) that have been worn together.
I weld up the bolt hole in the cam & mill a new hole in the direction to take up the wear then tack a piece of the correct gage steel in the gap.

My question is about the cam surface on the pedal. Not the pedal support. Those can be bought new.
I just get a better set of pedals out of the warehouse. But that is only going to last so long. I need to decide to keep the bad ones or just scrap them. I was hoping someone had come up with a solution other than the scrap hopper.

I went through this a few years back. I built the area back up with weld and then used a die grinder to get it back to the original geometry. It’s been working fine since.

I started a thread here (Rejuvenating cam on clutch pedal) but I didn’t post photos of the result. I’ll see if I can find photos of the finished part.
