Of course nowadays it’s most likely a 60s “muscle car”, but the principle remains the same . . .

Ain't that the truth.
In my life though, my Dad & Uncle were original SoCal hotrodders of the 40/50's, so they were all about it. My High School years were spent driving a 63 Studebaker Avanti, and then on to a 69 Mustang Mach. My eldest bro had a 50's MGTD, while my other brother, who was not into cars like the rest of us, had a Vega. Silly brother.
But, what car did I really hanker for?? A Model T....
Go figure.

A good 327 will fix a Vega.

Rich, I suppose Grandpa's Dad wanted his son to have a horse? Does that mean that you also consider a Model T like a hot rod?

My dad would not allow me to buy a 1936 Buick. ($30.00) I had to wait 60 years and settle for a darned old Ford.

my first car was a 65 Fairlane, traded it for a 74 Javelin.

My current 65 Fairlane is much nicer than my first one... Can't afford the 69 AMX I would like to get...

bought the first one with my paper route money... mom only let me buy it because she didn't think I could get it running.... had it running the next weekend..

@ Pat....'36 Buick.....

My dad had a 36 Ford Cabriolet, all period hotrodded... his pride & joy....oh to have that car now!
When he was married in '50, he had to temporarily leave it at his parents house. His 12 year old brother needed a steering wheel for his soap box go cart, and hacksawed the steering column at the floorboard. His parents figured the car was junk at that point, and unbeknownst to my dad, his parents had it towed away to be scrapped!!!! He cried over that car to his dying day.
