OCF Meet and Greet
I mentioned this in an older thread about OCF registration and it has been suggested that I start a new thread, so, here it is.
I'm proposing a Meet and Greet for forum members attending the OCF.
It would be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the little plaza in front of the replica of the Mack Avenue Ford Motor Company factory which is on the grounds of Greenfield Village. It's a nice open spot and would be a great place for a photo op.
Might be fun.
What do you think? Any takers?

If they'll accept me, I'll be there next year and would love to take part in something like this. So...yall should definitely get it started this year.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
I realize this is the MTFCA forum but visitors to the OCF should feel free to stop in to the MTFCI tent which is usually set up in the green between Main St and the Post Rd down from the Martha-Mary Chapel. Many of us belong to both groups but you don't need to be a member of either to be welcome among the Model T enthusiasts that gather there. When I went to the OCF for the first time last year I was able to put faces on several guys whom I'd come to know thru this forum. With or without your Model T you'll have a good time.
With only one affiliated club, MTFCA does not have a big presence in Michigan while the MTFCI has twelve, thus the reason for the MTFCI tent. Brian Dowell is the president of the MTFCI this year and he lives and breathes everything Model T....a great guy! Get him talking about his recently acquired '14 Touring

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
Speaking as a members of the Board of Directors of the MTFCA, we are all in this hobby together. I belong to both clubs and always will. It is with this spirit of comoradarie (sp?) that we all get along together and have a good time.
That said, I didn't know that the "I" club had a tent at the OCF and I'll make it a point to stop in and say hi.
And finally this is is for Brian Dowell, esteemed President of the MTFCI. Brian, you simply MUST post a picture of your new "14 here on the Forum for all to see!!! Inquiring minds need to see it....
Thanks,
Keith

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
It isn't a big tent but it does provide a place in the shade where you can meet up with other like-minded souls. I'm new to the hobby and all the Model T people I've met have been great, regardless of their club affiliation.
Brian is leaving next week for Prince Edward Island in preparation for the MTFCI National Tour, so he's working until then. You may have to wait until he returns to see a recent picture of his '14. Meanwhile, here's one he sent me that was taken a number of years ago.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
Is there any way that both clubs can have their tents next to or close to each other? We are not in competition here. It would be nice to reach across the aisle and shake hands with each other and not have to leave the tent.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
Dave, the MTFCA does not have a tent at the OCF. As Tim said, the "I" club has 12 chapters in Michigan and the "A" club only has one there, making it a bit harder to staff a tent, etc. for the MTFCA. Other than that there's no reason we couldn't share a tent, etc. Both clubs often sell hats and T shirts, etc. side by side at the Winter Tour in Florida, and help each other out, so this would be nothing new. I'll visit the guys and gals at the "I" club tent at the OCF this year and see about it.
At Hershey, each club has their own tent but they are not near each other. We do manage to roam around and see each other though, but the spaces at Hershey are assigned and you can't always, if ever, get the spot you'd like to have.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
Hi Marty, We have a very informal "Forum" get together in Hershey at the MTFCA site. It is designed for Forum participants who might be members of either club or those who don't belong to any club also. There is no cost to attend and there is no registration or pre-registration either. It's very informal. We start by having everyone identify themselves and where they're from. Then we open it up to questions or items they would like to discuss. I usually give an update on the "A" club, what's happening, news about the museum, upcoming tours, etc. We wind up with a group picture that gets posted on the Forum, and try to name each person on the picture. That's it. Very informal, no cost and anyone can come.
I suggest we use this same format as Hershey at the OCF. Marty, I think you would be a good moderator for this and I'd help also on behalf of the MTFCA.
Someone representing the MTFCI could talk about what's happening in that club - upcoming tours, Piquette news, etc.
Comments?
Thanks,
Keith

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
I think I started something.... I also think we're going to need a bigger tent I can't speak for the MTFCI but I will talk to Brian when he gets back from PEI and see what he thinks. Personally, I think it's a great idea...just the matter of logistics. Piquette is both an A and an I club, and the Casual T's are a very active I club in SE Michigan. Maybe we could get those guys involved. I'd certainly do whatever I could to help.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
I'm not sure where this thread seems to have gone off track, but, here is my original proposal. All I'm saying is a no fee, no obligation, informal meet and greet where it might be nice to say, "HI" and put forum names to faces.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
Just to clarify, MTFCI does not have a big tent at OCF, they save that for Hershey. In the past Brian has set up a sunbrella-type canopy where T folks tend to drop by during the OCF.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
I wonder if we could also do a group shot of forum members in their cars. Maybe we could get somebody to bring a drone and make some aerial views. I think there's room for it in the field across Michigan Avenue from the Giddings home. The folks who don't bring cars could be passengers.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
Gonna be hard to see faces that high up
Yes, this would be more of a car picture to complement the view of everybody without their cars.
The inevitable often happens.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
A worthy idea but flying a drone might be a problem - Greenfield Village lies under the Detroit Class B airspace, right near the edge of where it extends from the surface to 10,000 feet. Getting FAA permission to fly a drone there (not to say that of the folks at Greenfield Village) might be difficult.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
Wow! This is great!
Yes, my original thought was to put names with faces.
If we're going to bring our Ts to the meet and greet for a photo op, then we might want to re-think our meeting spot. Steve's suggestion would make the meet and greet on the activities field -- which I think Steve is suggesting -- which has more room for us and the cars.
The Village routinely uses a drone to document special events, so if someone has one to bring, I don't think it's a problem.
This' ll be fun!

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
Having never been to OCF and not to Detroit or Dearborn since I was driving truck through there in the 70's it will all be new to me. I wish I had gone when I could walk better than I do now but am looking forward to seeing the whole deal and meeting some of the forum guys.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
OK... has there been a decision as to a time and a place for the "meet and greet"? OCF is upon us.

Re: OCF Meet and Greet
I plan to be at the plaza in front of the Ford building. We could collectively agree to go get cars and meet in the activity field later? Just a thought.

Stan, the parking lot at Fairlane Town Center is where the trailer parking and RV camping is. Lots of old car people are here.
