Dave’s restoration and machine advertises regularly in the MTFCA Vintage Ford magazine.

Look closely at the other drums. It might be a good time to replace all three.

A new drum is only part of the story. The outer diameter of the driven plate forms part of the brake drum surface. Is a new driven plate available to match the new drums? If not, a new drum will mean a step down to the worn OD of the driven plate, not an ideal situation for the band lining.

Before new drums were available, I used to have the drum/driven plate assembly ground together to make the full width brake band surface. I compensate for the reduced diameter of the drums by fitting a rolled sheet metal spacer between the band and the lining to maintain the original range of adjustment for the bands.
