Today I spoke to the manufacturer of Model T Ford ignition coil point sets and supplies them to Model T parts vendors.
As reported in mid-September the supplier of the four basic coil point stampings is still having problems sourcing the raw brass and steel to make these parts. At this time, there is no delivery date for the material needed.
The manufacturer has all the tooling set up and operating to finish the point sets when the stamped parts become available. Obviously, absent the basic stamped parts he is unable to provide the assembled points sets.
As you can well imagine, the manufacturer is just as frustrated with this situation as those who are unable to purchase points for coil repair. At this point we all can do is be patient.
The manufacturer has agreed to keep me posted (I am his best customer) and I will report on any updated status I receive on this Forum.

Coil points..... now there's an item that can cause real trouble for model t'ers down the road if supplies dry up. Another example of how we are dependent upon so many small suppliers to keep the hobby going. We must do our best to support all those who support us.

Properly adjusted coils and proper capacitors in good condition will extend point life.

I dont know anything about coil point production.

Would it be feasible to put new tungsten on old coil points? I don't know of a single Model T owner who doesn't have a coffee can full of old points that are generally serviceable, but the tungsten is shot.

It might be possible to put tungsten points from common later model point sets on the T parts. They'd need to be similar in size and weight. The tungsten (or platinum?) is bonded to a small steel slug, and the steel is attached to the brass or spring steel part. Old points can be filed, up to a point.

CHAFFIN'S has always , I repeat. Always , been more than fair to the average Model T guy..... I'm sure his mode of business will not change.

What about just filing down the points just enough to smooth them out. I’ve got lots of them taken off and kept a bunch of them. That may not be the best thing to do but if you don’t drive a T all that much it would work OK. My opinion.
Maybe that’s the reason my Grandfather kept several copper head gaskets and boxes of old coils/ points, and miscellaneous T parts.

What did T owners do during WW2 with all the brass that was used for the war effort. Makes you wonder.
Maybe with the luxury of having common T parts readily avaliable weve forgotten how to repair some of our T parts as our earlier T owners did. Just another opinion.

You can file points IF there is still tungsten left on the little button. It's not all tungsten. If you file off all the tungsten, the points won't run long without sticking or burning. Older sets may have a thicker tungsten "biscuit" than newer production. An old junkyard guy told me that older points had more tungsten than newer ones. That was about 1962.

The E-Timer is one way out of points unavailability, since they are not necessary for the coils to function.

Using a Mastercoil, You only need one to make the four coils buzz.
