What a useful wrench

I would imagine/hope that every T driver has this wrench in their tool kit in the car. I knew that it was for the spark plugs and nuts for my demountable wheels, but since I've been restoring my 15 runabout I've come to realize how useful it is for other areas of the car. I even used it today to remove the gascolator from the bottom of my gas tank after removing it from the frame. What a useful wrench. Looks good too! Thankfully I've got an extra one that I keep in my toolbox for ready access.

Dennis, don't believe all you find on the internet. That tool clearly precedes the widespread introduction of metric fasteners. The end they indicate is for metric use is actually for whitworth use. The best examples cater for whitworth and BSW.

Don't ever buy one of these, for some reason it stripped everything it was tried on.

Neal, your #2335 wrench is the later version (1921-1927).
What you want for your 1915 is one of these (1913-1920). As you can see, they vary slightly in shape depending on what company supplied them.

I have one, but assumed it was for spark plugs and head bolts. It is 9" long so I wondered if it actually was for head bolts because is that length long enough to tighten those bolts?

Yes, that's what it's for. In the T era they didn't use torque wrenches. The #2335 wrench was long enough to tighten head bolts sufficiently and short enough to keep you from over-tightening them.

Steve's right. Before torque wrenches the books would specify something like a "strong pull on an eight inch wrench" of course, a ten or twelve inch wrench would provide more leverage or "torque."

I have a "dual duty" adjustable or Crescent style wrench (I had a Boss who called them "fitzall" wrenches.) Anyway, on one side it gives the maximun opening in inches, 7/8 as I recall, but flip it over and it is 22mm. So it is both a standard and a metric "fitzall."

Steve, love your sense of humor. The momma feeding the baby wrenches. Priceless. At first glance at the momma I saw the word COVID on her neck, but after enlarging the picture I saw I was wrong. It would have been even more appropriate for the times. Thank you for the laugh. Frank.

I work for an airplane company (Cessna) and built an airplane in my garage that I fly for fun. I restored our 1915 runabout in the same spot in the garage where I built the airplane.

My 1920's version of the spark plug wrench sees more use as a wheel nut wrench on demountable rims than any other use.
