roadside repair

Post by Dennis Prince » Mon Jul 15, 2019 6:45 pm

This last weekend a bunch of us was on a 4 day camping trip, we trailered our cars out into the Ochoco mountains in Central Oregon. The wagon master for this trip had just installed a Muncie in his 27 roadster pick up, when we were on a drive about 30 miles from camp his car started vibrating badly and making a dinging noise, we checked it out and whoever shortened the driveshaft tube didn't get a good weld on it and the tube became a two piece tube, with a fruit cocktail can and some hose clamps he was able to drive it back to camp (30 miles of rough and wash board roads).

I really like to use original stuff. But I usually carry a couple modern worm hose clamps in the tool box. (Be sure they are identical types and can be strung together!) It is amazing what those things can hold together! I have held exhaust systems together, limped a broken tie rod a few miles, patched radiator pipes or caps, held a spare tire in place after it's clamp vanished.

I would have put 1 or two wraps of baling wire, just in case! Now I need to add a soup can to my tool box. 👍👍
