I have a overdrive or two speed model T rear end. It is built by the Starr transmission co. I consider it an overdrive Some call it at two speed. Any information about would be Great.

Hi, Michael. What you have is a Starr Planator two speed auxiliary transmission. Starr is earlier, later built by Jumbo. It is not an overdrive, it is direct and 50% underdrive. Works the same as a Ruckstell axle. Nice accessory.

'Fraid not, Mike. My Starr is in my 27 touring but is obviously a later installation 'cause this would be well after they were being made by Jumbo. Uncle Stan and others are well versed on these things and hopefully will chime in here with some details and perhaps manufacturing dates.

Looks like after 1923 by the patent plate.

I just traded for one of these that was all apart, and was told it was complete. On closer examination after getting it home, and looking on prior threads,its missing the inside brass housings and the input (driveshaft) gear and shaft. There is a good photo of one all apart at the below link. Does anyone have any extra parts for these for sale? Obviously the input gear is the same as a T axle gear so that's no biggie, but the brass housing is another issue. If anyone even has one I could borrow, I could glue a thin piece of plastic on both flanges to account for shrinkage, and get some more cast up. Send me an email autoneer@gmail.com

Again thanks for all the information about this 2 speed. A couple of people have asked what I want for it. I have no idea what it is worth? Can someone give me a ballpark number ?

These type questions are always hard to answer. I bought a jumbo planatar last year. By the time I got it home I had less than $500 so pleased with that, however,after taking it apart it had some serious damage. If I had to pay someone a wage to fix it, I would have been way under water , but this stuff is a challenge and labor of love for me. If you cannot assess or guarantee the mechanical condition, it’s like buying a pig in a poke.
I think they are a really neat device but doubt I’d ever buy another one in unknown condition.
It’s similar to the ruckstell or unknown motor question. If you buy one for $500 you could hit a home run( unlikely) or you could have just thrown the money out the window.
