Ten-year-old Model T driver

Post by Steve Jelf » Mon Jul 29, 2019 11:50 pm

Years ago I read of a boy aged ten driving a Model T from Tulsa to New York city with his seven-year-old brother as passenger. I wonder if anybody here is familiar with the story. I've been trying to recall where I read it, but that was before this week, so of course I can't.

So I misremembered the details. They bought a Brush, not a Ford, and I had forgotten their other adventures. It's quite a remarkable story.

There was also Floyd Clymer and his brother (11 and 14) and their adventures driving a Flanders "20" around 1910. Their planed drive was from Denver to Spokane. Floyd talks about it in his book "Henry's Wonderful Model T".

What state issues drivers licenses to ten year old boys?

That Brush was at the Gilmore museum last year along with the story. They were driving it around.

That was the Abernathy Brothers, and it was done in 1910 to meet their father Jack's old friend, Teddy Roosevelt in NYC. They rode horses from OK to NY, but it was real hard on them (the horses, not the kids) so they bought the Brush and drove it home. A few years later in 1912 n0r 13? they duplicated the stunt on Indian motorcycles.
