Scat Rods 2T7000

Post by Dan Hatch » Wed Jul 31, 2019 7:42 pm

Has anyone used these rods? Are they the standard T rod? I would like to see a pic of one. Catalog says they are 1.250 on the rod size. That is T crank size. Anyone have info? Thanks Dan

Can't help you on the rods but, Ford cranks are 1.248" and now the scats are the same. .002" oil clearance.

Standard Ford crank was 1.2485" for .0015" clearance
Scat crank is the same Dia.
The Scat rod is H beam construction standard model T length with bushing for a model T piston wrist pin. The wrist pin is full floating (no wrist pin bolt) so a button is used or you can contact Chaffins for a set of Eggs pistons with a snap ring. hope that answer some questions..

I wish that was the specs on the new scats Mike, the last 2 new scats I fitted and with shell bearing rods came in at 1.248" and giving the .002" in oil clearance. The earlier scats I have fitted came in at 1.250" that wasn't a problem as I do my own rod pouring and machining and at .0015" clearance. The old general specifacations for the Ford crank is listed at just the 1.248" .

Dan, I called and spoke to Scat about those rods. The part number you are asking about is for Babbitt, not a shell bearing. They make a rod with a Model A journal that has a shell bearing. But the Model T replacement rod is just a heavy duty (racing/performance) Babbitt rod. And they don't come with Babbitt, so you have to have it done.

Dan

I don't have a current parts book from Synders so I don't know if they sell the Scat rod your asking about. Guess you should call them. The part number is indeed a Scat rod as Jason has posted

Kerry. Don't know what to say about your cranks but I have five of Scats T cranks in the shop today. All measured 1.2485" +/- .0002". My info on model t cranks dia is 1.248 to 1.249. New old stock cranks have all measured 1.2485". Maybe just my luck. Yes the early Scats measured 1.250". Oh well we can make them work lol.

The finished diameter of the Ford T crankshaft is 1.248” to 1.249” according to the Ford Print.

Scat makes A, B, & T cranks from the same forging. You can have your cranks custom made to any size you wish, so long as the forging is big enough...

The Synder's rod is not the same as the Scat rod. The Synder's rod has insert bearings and I understand the demand was not there so they are not making them anymore.

Synder sells a NEW babbitted rod that looks just like a Ford T rod only it has an oil dipper made on it. I was wondering if the Synder rod was the Scat rod or what does the Scat rod number I listed look like? Dan

Dan, the photo in the Scat catalog of the 7.5" "A" rods looks the same as the "T" rods.

Dan

I have a set of these at home that I am not using. I'll be home tomorrow evening. If you send me your email pr phone I can contact you tomorrow. I listed these for sale awhile ago for well under the list cost because I don't have an engine to use them in.

That’s too bad about the Snyder’s rods. I thought they were great built with dippers. 😢.
