I've heard that this underbed spare tire holder is an aftermarket accessory, but haven't found who sells them. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Most of the ones I’ve seen have been homemade. I mounted mine there several years ago. Keeps the bed clear for Cosmo, my Golden Retriever.

I too have considered making some kind of under body Tyre holder. At the moment mine lays in the tray taking up
valuable space, the original style restricts entry and even if you stand the wheel up in the pickup you can’t fold
the roof down.im looking for ideas also

A spare tire carrier for under the pickup box was produced by International Stamping of Milwaukee in the 1920's.
I have seen the advertisements in the Ford Owner and Dealer magazine. I have one, which was mounted on a 1926 roadster pickup.
It is constructed of lighter gauge strap iron riveted together. I can take some pictures of mine and provide some measurements in the near future.

One of our members installed a late model tire winch, can't see it , works great.

My solution. Bolted to wood side board at rear of bed.

I have yet to install the original pickup box on my ‘23 runabout but here is the vintage spare tire bracket that came with my car.

I wish I had been able to buy it. Aside from the fiberglass fenders, it's pretty nice and was set up with a lot of modifications for touring. Model A carb and manifold, Model B exhaust, deep sump and oiling modifications, 12v and distributor, Ruckstell axle and R10 in the torque tube, Rocky Mountain brakes, zip up top with side curtains, wind wings, and a fat man wheel. Got beat out by a buyer in Vegas. Building a similar RPU for mountain touring.

From what I can tell, there were no original under bed mounted spare tire holders.

Can you post a few pictures of how yours is moumted.

I have one that I believe was marketed by Western Auto. I mounts even with the dummy door, and uses stock running board holes. No need to drill anything, which is the way things were done way back. I was planning at one time to use it, but it's so much easier to just throw the spare in the back of the pickup box! No, It's not for sale.

Just prodding you to see if you've got photos, or scans of the catalog/magazine. Measurements aren't necessary, but I'd like to see what was done in the past before I start building one.

Here is one style for depot hacks, mounts under, slides out and folds down to get the tire and rim. Just like today's pickups

I consider locating the spare under the pickup bed a good idea.......keeps it neatly out of the way, yet accessible.

However..........

My 2003 F150 uses the same setup, but with a special anti theft "key" that you mount on the end of the rod stored under the hood. Inserting the key allows you to lower the spare, using a small "winch" and cable. Like most ideas, it sounds good if you say it fast enough but if you're out in the Nevada desert and pick up a nail......the fun begins. I found the lock recesses plugged with hardened dirt and debris, so the key wouldn't go in . My son, who's a lot more limber than me these days, finally crawled under and cleared out the rubbish with a small screwdriver. We got the spare out and changed the bad tire in one hour flat, hardly a record.

The spare has been in the bed since.............

George, after decades of off road driving, I've learned the same lessons. While I'll still mount the "T" wheel under the bed, there won't be any gearboxes, locks, winch or sliding rollers. I'm thinking it will just be a pair of gate hinges and a latch that looks like the tailgate latch.

I too would be interested in additional photos and some measurements to be able to store my spare tire under the pickup bed. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
