First, I have to tell you the story. I am a collector. More specifically a packrat. I come by rightly as it is in my blood. My family is literally pack rats. What did we not collect? Date nails, bottles, and insulators, coins (even 1982 pennies because they were 100% copper), stamps, lanterns, basically anything old.

I remember as a kid going out to the desert visiting old sites. One time we went to Tonopah Nevada and visited the old dump where you could go and find old stuff. This piece of newspaper came from there. Yes, as unbelievable as it is in a dry area like that the newspaper can survive! It was old, so obviously it is “collectible.”

Recently, I was moving stuff and really trying to get rid of stuff that there’s no point in keeping. But because it’s in my blood I just can’t get rid of things. So I started looking at this piece of paper and noticed that it has 1926 written on the top. Hey that’s the same year as my Model T. I definitely can’t get rid of that! Maybe I’ll read it and find it’s not interesting so then I won’t keep it.

So I read one side and turned it over. Hey what is this tidbit about offensive placards? Enjoy,

I guess endangering another driver by reckless tailgating is okay?!

Just another example in a long line of New Jersey trying to regulate citizens to death.

Does anyone have pictures of what placards (ie era bumper stickers) looked like?

Thanks for sharing that. It is hard to say what era that came from, but I imagine it has to be old... Now you can print out the newspaper clipping and show people how controversial this was!

This is an outrage !

You can buy bumper stickers at truck stops saying the same thing from time to time.

I guess folks living in New Jersey aren't too bright. The state government knows this. The proof? They still won't allow the citizens of the garden state to pump their own gas. The only reasonable reason is that NJ folk just aren't smart enough to accomplish this very difficult task. (Tongue firmly in cheek).

One I really liked I saw on the back of a semi trailer. It read “If my turn signal is on, it is not a request. I’m moving over. Get the hell out of my way.”

30 years ago I saw a related sticker that required a double-take to make sure
I read it right:

I have been looking for this one ever since. Seems entirely "right" for my vehicles.

John, the last time I was in Oregon, the same rules applied. The service station employed people to pump gas. Having that job probably meant a lot to somebody. There are other people who would really appreciate the service. My wife has compromised lungs due to radiotherapy for cancer treatment and she really cannot tolerate the smell of raw petrol.
The lessening of employment opportunities is also the reason I will never use a self checkout at a supermarket. All those who do are simply robbing many kids of a possible first job.
It has nothing to do with the intelligence of the populace. It has much to do with employers shifting their service to maximise profitability.

Besides, in Oregon, when you roll into the gas station, and you tell the attendant to fill it
up, then go inside to get a soda, you can have a modicum of amusement watching him and
the others try to figure out where the fuel goes in !

Toss them a ring of keys as you go, to really create some confusion.

I pulled off I 5 in Oregon for gas. Not only did they pump the gas they gave my dog a milkbone.

Has to do with the law, and handling hazardous/dangerous chemicals (like, yeah, Gasoline)... I forgot about that when I went up there a few weeks back, until he shows up to pump gas... I was just opening the door, when the guy walks up to get my card...

I still laugh when its the other way around, when an Oregonian would come to California, and sit there waiting for the attendant to come up... until it hits them they're not in Oregon anymore...

Thomas, the one you saw is a reflection on the intelligence of its creator/wearer. If he means breaks as cracks up, OK. If he means he hits the big pedal next to the accelerator.............?

I find the Model T era Packards particularly offensive. I would love to park a
big old long wheelbase sedan in the shop here, and relish in being offended by it.

My favorite of late, seen on the back of a T touring on the HCCA Cambria tour earlier this summer:
