I bought this magneto / coil tester today made by The Service Products Co of Springfield Ohio. The bearings are good and it’s complete but really dirty and the wires are toast. So, I’ll start to take it apart this weekend and see what needs to be done. I hope that enormous Jewel amp is still ok. How should I test the amp? Any tips on using one of these machines. Are there any operating manuals

Wow what a big meter you have!! I think the one on mine (different maker) is about 1/3 that size. Nice, would be easier to read. I like the open design, might be easier to see the whole thing. Mine is the drum style, standing there cranking is some times hard to read the meter and see all 16 flashes.

Here it is at home and apart a few minutes later. Looks pretty good. Will clean it up and rewire it this weekend if not sooner.

I have a restored Service Products tester and use it constantly.

The Service Products Company was formerly the John O. Heinze Company, formed after he left the Heinze Electric Company.

We have a local fellow here in Western Washington, Bob Cascisa. He restores & calibrates those meters - he posts on here and advertises in the Vintage Ford & the Suppliers page, I believe.

While you have everything apart, you might as well go the extra step and recharge the magnets the full strength, and check out the coils for missing insulation and damage

I actually have a flywheel magnet assembly that I rebuilt recharged and a perfect coil assembly for the purpose of building one of these all set to go.
