Shorty and I drove to the tractor show at the fairgrounds, a round trip of forty miles. The car did well except when a couple of the take-apart Champion X spark plugs worked loose. A wrench fixed that and I drove home with no more trouble.


Two cars, two engines: 1928 Reo Flying Cloud and 1915 Ford Model T.


As usual Verne Shirk, Justin Dalke, and some of the other antique car folks drove down from Wichita.

A bit of moisture persuaded Verne to put his top up, but happily it didn't last long.


I got only a few stills this time, and shot mostly video. The show included demonstrations of threshing, various kinds of corn processing, and a 1936 sawmill.

Those kind of events are always great and the old cars are usually quite an addition to them. I wish we had more like that in our area. We used to attend an event at one of the James River plantations that is now a state-run farming museum. Great location but for some reason they stopped having the cars attend. The best part was actually driving the cars around during the show. Wish they would have us back again.

It is great that others put on those events. They are so nice to just drop in on. We go to some threshing events this time of year and the tractor/engine guys are always doing things.

That Reo is very similar to the '29 Reo coupe master semi-sport coupe I had way back in high school. Mine was not nearly so nice. Mostly original with a bad old paint job but extremely nice original interior. I soon decided it was too modern for what I wanted, and sold it to restore a slightly earlier Studebaker. The Reo was a great driving car! lots of power, and handled very well. I sometimes wish I had kept it and restored it. Although I did really like that Studebaker It was a '25 coach/two-door sedan).
Sounds like you had a good time! And the car is nearly ready for another long drive.
