It sits on the wood, no metal there.

The deck of the roadster on which the trunk sits is covered with sheet metal.

The floor of the trunk itself is wood.

It can depend on the manufacturer of the turtle deck.

Some are wood frame only and the metal skin of the body becomes the floor. Others have a rabbit in the wood framing and a wooden floor.

Mine was wood frame only and I added a wood floor on top of the framing instead of dumping things on the painted metal of the body deck.

This was discussed previously here and you may find out more with a search of older postings.

I have no knowledge of the 1916 turtle deck, but on my original1913 with a Fisher body, the sheet metal goes all the way to the back body sill, from the tack strip. The lower framework of the turtle deck is rabbeted, as mentioned to accept a wood floor. I don't recall if it was 1/4 or 3/8's

I guess I was mistaken. Eric J. knows more about T's than I do, for sure.

Eric’s description holds true for my ‘14 runabout.
