Is this a long gone after market item or are these extensions still being made ? I'd love to own one for my 27.

Nope..the one Langs sells will not work on a 26-27. The pic is of a 26. If its one of Langs someone has altered it to make it work.

Should fit just fine, really no difference in major features over the years of the hand brake lever.

Lang's print catalog says up to '25, BUT the on-line catalog says fits up to 1927. Call them, confirm, then order

It is a reproduction of the popular Grout Handbrake Extension Arm which was made during the Model T era.
Just attach to the top of the hand brake lever handle, it requires no modifications to your vehicle.
It can work on any hand brake. (Except will not work on the 1926-1927 Model T's due to the seat height.)
Unlike the other versions of this item that were previously available, this one is designed to clear the dash on 1919-1925 Model T's.

So perhaps just easy to bend the long thin rod the ball fits too, to clear your front seat. Although my '27 touring front seat is lower than my '25 touring front seat, even with the gas tank there!

This is the original GROUT handbrake extension. We made and sold 100 reproductions of them before selling the business, but it wasn’t kept going. We still manufacture a flip style , the NORWALK , patterned after an original design. Lang’s and Snyder’s sell it, and only available through them. The advantage is it only sticks up about a half inch higher than the original handbrake, and will clear your dashboard, and also flips forward for exiting the vehicle, if you happen to have a driver side door. I think it adds about 7” to your reach.

This is one installed in a friends 1926 Tudor Also, the original ad. Didn’t mean to steal the thread, just showing another option. This one can be easily moved from car to car, nothing to change, as you must do with the Grout.

Tim...no worries glad you posted. My buddy has one on his 24 coupe like that from Langs but I wasn't sure it would work on a 26-27 without hitting the dash.

I have the above handle installed on my 1915 roadster. It works great for moving the lever forward to engage 2nd gear, and also for releasing 2nd gear. It is awkward for engaging the emergency / hand brake. When the lever is pulled all the way back, the extension handle does not clear my seat. Since the handle flips up, I can still engage the hand brake with the handle flipped up, but it is awkward. Works OK for engaging the hand brake for a parking brake, less well in my opinion for engaging the hand brake in a true emergency as now there is now an extra step of flipping the handle up to access the actual brake lever handles.

I have a 27 roadster pickup. I made this for the hand brake. It took lots of grinding, adjusting and redoing to get it to pass under the dash and not hit the seat. My father lost his left hand in a farming accident in the early 70s and make this red know for his tractor so that he could turn the steering wheel with one hand. After he passed away in 1985 I took the knob off the tractor and had it in my tool box until I used it on the extension about a month ago. This extension works great for me. The switch under the dash is for turn signals.

It’s easy to check if the NORWALK would work with your dash. Like I said , it only adds about 1/2” to the height when installed. Also, keep in mind that the brake lever itself is easily bent at the floor level, and this will give you a bit more legroom, and also clear the dash more.Whether you use an extension or not, this isn’t a bad idea for better legroom. I’m not understanding your complaints, Wayne , of it not clearing the seat. It’s not required to engage the toggle to set the brake.
The correct way to set the brake lever is to engage the paddle, so the ratchet is saved some wear, but everything is a trade off. Do you want to reach your brake lever easier, or do you want to make the ratchet not wear a bit more. Some grease dabbed on the ratchet teeth isn’t a bad idea, regardless.

My brake handle is already bent so the extension may work for me. I just hate to drop the cash not knowing for sure.
