Leaking Oil, Ugh!

Have an oil leak on my TT at "ball joint", (wrong name most likely) where drive shaft meets rear of transmission. Can the seal at this location be changed or repaired without pulling the engine or the rear end?
It slowed down when I greased the fitting there but came back with a few driving miles. Not much help in service manual. Thanks.

Scott, always like to see your comments, thanks. Would like to chat with you about 5 minutes about this and another topic. Would you call me at 925 212 3900 when you have a few minutes? Thanks.
Tom

Sounds like it could be several things;
Plug missing at output shaft
Worn 4th main
Gasket between the 4th main and ball retaining cap
Ball and retaining cap worn

The first two; the engine would ether need to come out or pulled forward about a foot so there was room to work
3rd; could be done in place
4th could be done in place with shim sold by dealers.

There is a metal shim avaliable from the parts houses to put between the ball and and cap to make a tighter fit up. If it’s got excess clearance it will begin to start slowly leaking more than normal. Most T’s do leak at that point sooner or later. But T’s leaking a bit here and there is sort of normal.

Thanks! Part number or name for ordering shim? Where to look for install info? Appreciate any info.

Lang’s has them in their 2019 catalog.
Part no. Is 2581SH
You can also go to their website and check it out.
As far as installing one I haven’t had to use one on any of my T’s but they do have a split in them so you may can slip it in if you loosen the joint enough for it go in. Not sure about it but it seems like you could.
