Today's Hemmings online has a link to a 1993 PPS special on the up and the down sides of Ford's $ 5 a day pay from 1914 to 1932. It has a lot of period film and some 1993 interviews with 1920's employees. Be for warned that, while the almost hour show was very interesting and worth watching it has a negative spin on Ford and Capitalism typical of the PBS, or at least that is how I saw it. No I can't justify everything Henry Ford did but he did more to make the American middle class than others of his time.

Re: Henry Ford's $ 5 a day pay
Henry Ford, in HIS day, did more to create an affluent middle class than ANYBODY in public office or major corporations are doing today to preserve that middle class!
Sorry for the rant. I am simply sick of all the spinning and twisting of facts and history by the self chosen elitists the past half century.
