Neat stuff in a barn

Post by Mark Osterman » Sun Sep 15, 2019 5:45 pm

Stopped at a barn where I was told there was lots of old car parts. Yup... all kinds of stuff in one old shop building but mostly 1940s and up. Lots of NORS fenders for 1960s cars. Then I went to the back barn and there was a fair amount of T stuff and other early pieces. Two Reo trucks. Several Ts in different stages of condition. I did come away with a complete set of top irons/bows for a ‘23 runabout, something on my want list.

I’m desperately looking for a a 17-25 runabout body to put in a rolling chassis. Any chance you come across one?

I have a turtle deck.... :)

Cool power plant, looks like a high head and no generator provision.

The generator is on the right hand side of the motor and is driven off the waterpump gear. I have one like this.

I have some extra top socket for a '25 here. It's the same for a '23, except there is a small area toward the end that is about 1/2" square for tacks. If you need the location, I can help.

Mark,

Whak kind of truck is that... and why would they put a little three cylinder engine in there? I don't think the cool factor would count for much when horsepower was needed!

It’s a late teens REO truck. 4 cyl.

I "think" Terry is kidding!
That Reo truck motor is very close in design and look to the mid-'10s Reo car engines. I have heard of a few '20s trucks being junked so the motors could be used to build "1915" speedsters. I sure hope that truck gets a good home It is definitely worth restoring.

Very neat engine ! and interesting valve configuration, a kind of F-head but with the inlet valve on the opposite side of the exhaust, although actuated by the camshaft on the other side of the block, not like a T-head which usually has two camshafts...
Really nice, never seen one like it before, thanks !
When in trouble, do not fear, blame the second engineer ! 8-)
