$2.00 T Screwdriver Find

I bought this screwdriver today in a Maine Antique shop for two bucks. Been digging through boxes of old tools for years looking for one. Almost missed this one. It was under a bunch of other tools that included a pair of T pliers which made me keep digging through the oily old toolbox. Noticed the square shank and, Eureka, there it was.

Congratulations! They are out there. Usually unknown "old things", and often cheap when you find them.

I searched for a long time and found lots of good T stuff along the way. But I have to say, this was a special find for me. Good hunting if you’re still searching.

How do you know this is a Ford model T screwdriver? Is there Ford script on the blade or handle. Just interested.

I came across mine in exactly the same circumstances here in N.J. and at the same price. The seller said "boy you guys sure go for those wooden handled tools". Yeah I guess so. Being un marked like the tire irons these guys have no idea what they've got. However in all the yers of searching I've never come across a tire iron. I guess most think they are just abused pieces of flat bar.

Lew, Look at the Ford engineering drawing in the first link posted by Cudaman above. My understanding is that a few have the Ford script, but most do not. So you have to look for the other features illustrated in the drawing: size, square shank, fluted handle (some are quite worn), rivet, and metal shank poking up at the top of the handle. The lack of Ford script makes this tool seem generic to antique dealers who don't have specific Model T knowledge. That means you can still find them mixed in with other old tools at a good price. Being lucky helps. Joe

Just received this one today off of ebay. Had 5 wooden handle screwdrivers and this was one of them. Starting bid was $5 with $9 shipping. Nobody bid on it so I got it for $5.
