Today my 1912/13 Maxwell went to its new home in Wisconsin. It sat in my back yard for 25+ years waiting for me to retire and have time to restore it. Was never going to happen with me.
I listed it on the horseless carriage site last summer with a substantial price reduction and sold it to a fine young man who will restore it correctly. He is a blacksmith working out of a former Maxwell dealership building.
It is the only known Maxwell model 30 touring known to exist, built to satisfy dealers until the new owners could get a more modern car in production. Best guess is fewer than 200 were built, this and a roadster survive, both in Wisconsin.
I was glad to see it go to a good home.
I left the 1920 Montana license plate on it -- been there for 99 years.

Wow, glad it found a good home! It truly is a special car and deserves to be well restored and driven on tours often.
I hope to hear about you going on some good tours or local drives also.

I love seeing a classic antique car put into the hands of someone who will work on the project. I see far to many old cars that people would like to restore in the hands of hoarders who allow them to sit , rust and deteriorate.

I have enjoyed pictures of it and often thought what a great car it could be. I haven't completed my 30 year Model 25 project so I didn't try to buy it.
I'm sure your tedious carburetor work and all your other interests are plenty of frustration to keep you happy without it.
Perhaps we will see photos of it from it's new owner.

Luke just told me he got the car and it's home safe and sound now, sitting in the driveway. Nice looking project there Stan.

It was nice that day, John!! This is Montana, I am about 200 miles south of the Canadian border on the east side of the Continental Divide at 3900 feet. It snowed a couple inches but was close to 30 degrees. Pretty nice day for January.

Not to worry, it will cool back down soon enough !

It's great to hear about another piece of history heading for restoration. I hope he will give you a ride in it when it's done and hopefully you can post an update picture.

I had it for about 25 years and was glad to see it go to a good home. If he gets it restored while I am still able to travel I will go see it. I'm selling some other things too, I need to downsize even more.

Stan, in retrospect it's kinda funny how things go sometimes. If you recall, you & I discussed me purchasing this car several times over the years, ...and I was really serious about purchasing it when I was picking up the Ruckstell you rebuilt for my customer at the 2010 Rapid City tour. At that time, you were not much on wanting to bend on the price nor were you wanting to bring it to Chickasha in March, --and I was not wanting to drive from TN to MT to retrieve it and the most I had in my pocket to spend was $10k. As fate would have it, I was able to purchase an '09 two-cylinder Maxwell in lieu of yours, and I was able to purchase an OF carb that you restored & donated to the auction, ...so in the end, it all worked out where I got a Maxwell and I also got a really nice piece that was formerly owned by the nobleman Stan Howe. Life is grande.

Thanks for posting those photos Brent. I have gone to Stan's web site and looked at his. I was afraid they would go away but these will help me think Model 30 when I need to. Ben Briscoe was in charge of Maxwell when the the Models 22, 30 and 40 came out with HP designations for their model names. A 6-cyl Model 50 was also offered. Shortly Walter Flanders took over. Just more of the crossover of people in the industry at the time.
Anthony J. Yanik wrote a great history Maxwell Motor...." a few years ago covering the Maxwell years.

I have posted quite a bit of Model 25 stuff on the proboards forum including my chain drive. I hadn't tried the facebook one. Wow! There is lots to like there. I also have a lot of early Maxwell 16mm footage (HCCA 1&2)I need to transverse to youtube when I learn how.

I rebuilt the carburetor on the Jack Benny Maxwell a couple years ago. It had a very interesting idle fuel supply/adjustment that had been added in the 50's to get it to run better. I made a new system based on that design and have since made two more for similar carbs.
It was never actually owned by Benny, the TV station leased it from the owner for appearances.
