Rear bearing will not come out

I know this question has been asked before, but I cannot find the answers. I removed my left rear wheel to check the bearing and sleeve since they are leaking. Everything came apart easily, but I cannot get the bearing out. There is no play in the axle and I remember this axle went together nice and tight when we rebuilt it. Do you have a special tool you use or a special technique to get this bugger out? Thank you.

Stevens produced a puller for just removing stubborn rear roller bearings - I'll attempt a photo tomorrow.

while we're waiting for Steve's photo, I think you'll have luck if you will hook the bearing with a wire and rotate the other wheel, forcing this one to turn, too. I have never failed to have a tight bearing walk out while pulling on it and someone else rotates the axle for you.

Found a stiff small hook works, something thin to get to the edge of the carriage and the axle.

This one from the wife's sewing basket is good :) Plus wiggle the axle or as Scott said, rotate opposite wheel to turn the axle shaft as you pull out that bearing.

Some use a coat hanger or stiff wire.

Wire hangers are getting harder to find than model T parts

Also check the bearing outer sleeve for a burr or bent over section that is keeping the bearing from sliding out. Bend or file the end of the sleeve as needed.

In most cases the bearing has worn a groove or lip in the outer side of the sleeve, The bearing is hanging up on this lip. Glen

Thanks Scott and Dan. I got my daughter to turn the wheel and I found a small hook like Dan shows. Once I got it far enough out I used a puller that I ground off the bottom so it would work on a bearing. The puller probably isnt good for anything else now, but I like to pull my bearings each year to inspect and re-grease them. I think more owners need to pull their bearings more often.

Glad you had success in pulling the Hyatt bearing for check and re-grease pack.

Using an antique button hook, mine has a bakelite handle, antique store find, $5.

Slips between axle shaft and bearing outer carriage.

Just removed these bearings today for service of the rear axle.
