Early 2 piece driveshaft difference

I am rebuilding the rear for my 1909 Roadster and I noticed that the tube of the two piece driveshaft from this car is actually 1/4 inch smaller in diameter than the driveshaft from my 1915 which has the “one piece” closed spool driveshaft. The reason why I bring this up is because #1 it is visually different in size which is why I checked and #2 today there are many later driveshafts made into the two piece type using the repro two piece cast end. My question here is has anyone else noticed this difference? And was this smaller size only a feature of the 1909-10 driveshafts or on all two piece driveshafts?
