I just talked to Ashley at Lang's about the lead time for door wood kits for my 24 Touring (I need left rear and right front). She called their supplier and was told 4 months.

Yikes.

Anyone know where a person could get them sooner? I'm not opposed to making them myself, but my woodworking equipment is VERY limited and I know it's really important to get those door pieces right so the doors have the correct curves/shapes that make them fit right. Also...I have the woodworking skills of a brain-damaged monkey.

I don't mind paying decent money for a very nice, solidly done set.

Who is their supplier?

Classic wood products in Greensboro does doors and you can call them direct.

I contacted Ricky at Classic Wood and he told me 4 months. I'm guessing he's Lang's supplier.

Ash, maple, oak are woods you can use. I bought some doors at Chickasha that someone had used pine. It fit pretty well but bought the wood kit from fordwood to replace it. I think that ash works pretty well. I bought a few pieces of ash to replace some rotted pieces in my 24 Coupe and it worked well. For me it’s a little more easier to use and not as “brittle” as using oak.

I just sent an email to the folks at Fordwood. I bought tack rail kits from them previously. They took about 6 weeks to fill that order.

Last time I spoke to Fordwood, a body kit would take 9 months (if they decided to make one). I bought it from Bob's Antique who gets theirs from Classic Wood, and it was at my dad's house in a week and a half.

I've bought from them before. They were slow, but not 4 months slow.

Oak is actually a terrible choice for body wood; it splits easily, tends to warp and is an open celled wood. Ash is good, but very hard to find.

Wondering what Ford used for wood when building the bodies, did they use a specific type wood in different areas in the body structure, doors, floors etc. George

buy the 1920s they used anything they they coild get. i have some org main sills that are pine. sycamore is the best.i have 300 bodies out there with it in them.charley
