Daytime Running Lights

Post by Novice » Thu Sep 26, 2019 1:00 am

The new Led headlight bulbs being marketed for the model T. Make it possible to have daytime running lights without straining the Ts electrical system since the 55 watt equivalent Led bulb only draws 1 amp for the pair of headlights. and on low the draw is practically nothing but plenty bright for being seen. On Magneto cars a small deer feeder battery will power it for up to 7 hrs and You will probably need gas before they go dead. on My generator car You can just barley see the amp meter move on bright/high. I tried both and prefer the round led 55 watt. The wedge shaped 75 watt bulb produces a funny looking U or C pattern depending on which sockets are in Your car OEM or reproductions.

I just leave my headlights on. They're mag lights, so they're on whenever the car is running. No battery involved.

Magneto lights are fine for running lights and for driving at night in town where there are plenty of street lights, but not good enough for dark country roads.
The inevitable often happens.

Can you let us know where you found the LEDs?
Or post a link. I would love to get a set of either one.

The purpose for Daytime Running lights and/or having your headlights on when its not dark is so others can see you better, a must for motorcycles.
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

I always have the headlights on when I drive my T.
Not unlike a motorcycle, the shape of a Model T does not seem to register with some drivers as a vehicle.

FWIW-
Here in Califunny I believe it's actually illegal to drive with only your "parking lights" on, day or night. You can always drive with headlights on, but not just parking lights.

I believe it’s law in Canada for all vehicles to have DTRL...Most US locals it’s law on a MC. ;)
I run mine all the time, LEDs.
Agree with the visibility thing, anything to help be seen by other drivers.

Dave
In Canada all new vehicles have had DTRL since I believe 1990.
Older vehicles are “grandfathered” just like seat belts etc and don’t legally require them
