I got this wheel with the interesting hub along with a bunch other Model T wheels. Can anyone explain this to me?
Thanks!
Matt

To me (and this is just my opinion, please do not put any stake in it) it looks like a hay wagon wheel - no high speed, frequent grease, and built to take a load. I know I may be WAY off, but having dealt with hay wagons before, that, with that taper, is what it looks like to me....

It looks like a demountable conversion. Spare tire is already mounted and filled with air. I would guess that there would be a hub on the car with six holes that the pins locate in, and a single center nut holds it on, like a modern "Knockoff" hub.

Jeff,
I agree it does look like some sort of demountable conversion. Has anyone seen one? Does anybody have more information?

Believe that wheel is a 'Minute' wheel, these were demountable in 1915, the Minute came with set of wheels, four special hubs, 4 large hex nuts, and a wrench to lock that nut against the wheel.

Dan,
Thanks for your response! Very neat concept. I wonder how good they worked. Unfortunately I only have the one and no hub for the bearings.
