Rich, I really enjoy your posts as they reflect real situations we have run into with the T. The one dated May 7th reminds me of a situation my son and I had several years ago while on tour with our HCCA club. Son and I both have manifold cookers and one evening while the group was waiting for the ice cream to finish churning, we loaded the cookers with a blueberry sauce. It needs about 15 miles to get right and we took off on a quick run. He decided to stop for gas and while there to also check on the blueberries. An elder gentleman came over to look into the engine and asked what my son was doing with the spoon and the cooker. Son replied that he was checking the blueberries. The old guy asked, "you mean this car runs on blueberries". Son Bryan didn't reply but closed the hood and we continued on our warm up trip. I wonder how many people the old guy told about this before they "committed" him.

Many years ago I had my Touring in the Woodward Dream Cruise, near Detroit. It was a very hot day and essentially an enormous traffic jam. The old Touring overheated & quit. (Only time that's ever happened) As I was pushing the car off Woodward Ave., someone from the crowd yelled, "My grandpa used to push one just like that!" Worth it!

Glad you liked it.

Yesterday, we had a tour. Every so often after turning a corner everyone stopped for a while to let others catch up and be sure no one missed the turn. About 3 cars ahead of me a car was stopped with the top down and smoke was coming out. The trouble truck driver came up with a fire extinguisher, thinking the car was on fire. The driver was smoking a cigar!

Rich, I wasn't intending to have it look like you and wouldn't wish more blowouts on you. It wouldn't resemble you more if I had tried.

Only “T” folk can relate !!

I wonder how many of our members have actually patched tubes roadside ? My first T, I rolled on ancient rubber for over a year and probably only got 10 to 20 miles between flats. (if that). That all went away with a set of new Riversides, and it’s a good thing too !! They were a nightmare for this green kid to mount compared to the old worn out tires. I could almost whistle and the old ones would jump back on the rim on command !

That's odd. The old ones are usually harder to get off. Maybe it was because you had so many flats that they had been stretched from removing so often!

Norm, probably not so odd if you consider the tires we scrounged off old Hoover wagons and in barns were likely no more than 20-30 years old in 1962. At the time I never encountered any that were rock hard like they seem to become when more ancient. It's also possible they were natural rubber, or had a higher percentage if it in their makeup ? The synthetic rubber compounds seem to age differently.

It amuses me that until quite recently, Rich Eagle was still rolling on tires he bought new over 50 years ago ! (Maybe he's still is ?)

Many of us grew up with Don Martin's characters in MAD magazine. "Mad's Maddest Artist." I don't imagine he ever had a Model T but he should have.
This was inspired by him and a photo of Dollisdad's.
