Hi,
I need to replace the gasket on the carbide generator.
What is the group's consensus on the process, materials, and method?
If you have any best bets, resources or success stories, I'd love to know.

BTW, I repaired my leaks with silver solder! Successfully, but not without trepidation.

I tried to find a new gasket for my carbide generator a few years ago with no luck. I tried all the vendors & no one ever carried them. I finally came to the conclusion that RTV would work. Lay it in the grove very carefully & try to keep it even and let it cure real well before putting the generator back together.

I'm not too steady in the hands, so I may need to investigate carving one out of a mouse mat or something.

Greg, I cut mine out is a piece of Viton, probably from Amazon or McMaster-Carr. If your hands are unsteady, find two circular cans that right diameters and essentially trace them with a sharp exacto knife.

I'm going to order up some Viton rubber sheeting, and cut myself a new one. I'm supposing that the outer edge is pretty important, and as long as I leave it wide enough, the inner edge is not so important.
