Rear Windows
I'm collecting data for rear windows for 1913-1927 tourings and roadsters. I'm only interested in cars that have the original tops supplied by Ford. I need the size of the window, (light), and the spacing between the windows from 17-21, and 22-24. For the purists out there, if you have ever been anywhere where there is a group of Model T's, it's almost disgusting to see the variations of T's with the incorrect placement of windows. I would like to help change that.

Re: Rear Windows
And I bought a metal rear window frame for my ‘26 FORD roadster from our Dan Treace and had it nickel plated. I then had it installed on a new Classitique top. I did it because this thin plastic sewn into tops nowadays is not close to original isinglass. And seeing it in every touring and roadster on tours just disgusts me. So I’m using real glass like a Deusenberg.
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people

Re: Rear Windows
**btt**...I believe these rear “light” dimensions have been researched and published somewhere but can’t put my finger on it. Can anyone else answer Smith’s request ?

Re: Rear Windows
I'm not sure where this one is from...
Note there are some differences between the two, as I'm sure that there was differences in production as well depending upon supplier, especially in the early years.

Re: Rear Windows
The illustrations above are exactly why I posted this. There can't be two different sizes for the years posted, there can only be one! I'm working with Mike Francis on this, and we will eventually clear up all this misinformation.

Re: Rear Windows
I'm sure that the top on my '27 is not original - it has plastic instead of the isinglass, but the dimensions are 7" by 17 1/2". The top is in pretty good shape and I don't anticipate changing it anytime soon, but if I ever I do, the window will be larger and still plastic. The T is blind as a bat in rear visibility and I regard it as a safety item, just as I would a safety glass windshield.

Re: Rear Windows
Ford factory drawings at benson ford research center would answer that. There may very well be different dimensions for the same style windows. My experience with factory drawings is that there were many subtle changes for some parts even during a 12 month period, even for a short run style such as the 26-27 models. It may turn out that for some window styles there was a change every couple of months, so the quintessential, all or nothing, black or white, right or wrong, single configuration for show judging standards correct, does not exist. Who knows where Les Henry got his dimensions from as well as other pearls of wisdome for his book, but 40 years ago his book was THE source and that was what we looked at as the authority.

Re: Rear Windows
Does Classtique use the correct size and spacing for their 1923 tops. Will be buying one this Spring ...

Re: Rear Windows
Mike and I are working on this together. Two years ago, I did quite a bit of research on the subject. Some of those old prints are difficult to read. Once again, the reason for this post is, the next time you go on a tour, you'll see what I mean especially the 22-24 rear windows.
