Anyone want to venture a guess on what this axle is for?

See picture, top axle is Model T, bottom looks exactly like a T but shorter. It has not been cut or welded. Is it for a clown car? How about a FWD conversion? Opinions please!

Most likely shortened on the gear end - pretty simple machining process to shorten & recut the key & keeper slots.

I believe some snow machines used narrower axles.

I'm going to guess for a tractor conversion. Shaw offered different configurations/ Wheel spacings.

I've never had one apart, but does a Ruckstell use a shorter axle on one side?

The Ruckstell uses standard Ford axles on both sides. I would suspect that axle might have been cut down for a speedster or maybe for a small trailer to be pulled by a T.

Model T rear axles were often modified for application on farm implements. Around here, many one-row spud diggers used them. (Blackfoot, Idaho - world potato capitol -
)
