I purchased a 1926 Model TT in August and have it running but, it is in need of repair to the axle yoke where the spindle mounts as the top holes are worn oversize and on one side the threads are completely gone.

I'm in the Portland, Oregon area and am looking for either someone within an hour of me that has a Stephens tool that can assist me with the repair or someone that would rent me the tool. Alternatively, if there was a shop in the area that does this work, I could remove the axle and take it in to have it done. I'm a newbie to model T's and model TT's. Haven't been to my first club event but, hope to make it to a Rose City Model T club meeting in November to start to meet the local club members.

I've already purchased a spindle bolt set and related tools through Langs but, haven't ordered repair inserts for the yokes yet.

The Rose City Model T club has the repair tools and inserts to fix your axle for club members to use. The meeting is the first Thursday of the month.

If Keith does not see this send me a PM and I will get you in touch with him, he is our keeper of the tools and how to DVDs/videos. We have a couple of members working on TT's now. We like to get new members. While the meetings are for club business there is time for talking to members to get info and help.

I have a Spindle Bushing Driver, Bushing Thrust Cutter, Spindle bushing reamer and reamer alignment tool that I purchased from Langs along with a spindle bolt and bushing set. Is there anything else that I'll need along with the tool set that I'll pick up when I meet you on the 7th? Do I need to order the new threaded inserts for the bottom yoke bore and tapered inserts for the tops?

We live in Fairview and am looking forward to getting to know folks in the Rose City Club. We have a couple other classics but, this is our first 20's vehicle. We pulled if from a barn in Yamhill.

There are inserts in the box with the tools. You will need to replace any inserts you use.
From the list you posted should about cover the job.

That sounds great, are the insert sets from different suppliers all the same to work with the Stephen's type axle reamer bits or is there one particular supplier I should order them from. I'm going to go ahead and order a set so that I'll be all set to return the tool set complete.

The ones Lang's or Snyder's sells are correct for the Stevens tool. I would wait and see how many you need because it is better to only replace what is need in the axle. I am pretty sure the threads only go part way thru the hole so may be looking at ok threads. The top being wallowed out is a different story. While these work great, it is better to keep as much of the original forging as you can.

The inserts only come from one source.
If the top hole needs an insert. 9 times out of 10 the bottom needs one to.
Per the Stevens instructions, you always fix the top hole first. This gives you a starting point for the bottom hole.
Also, they say to check the hardness of axle before starting. This to avoid damage to your cutting tools.
