Working on a transmission that had a low band slipping, drum got hot. This is a repro drum. Was wondering if drum is shot? Anyone seen this and used the drum? I have contacted drum maker and am waiting for reply. Did not find any cracks when mag fluxed.
I know band should not be allowed to slip, but that boat sailed. Just wondering if anyone has seen this and used drum and what was out come. If you do not want to post here, PM me. Thanks Dan

All I can say is Holly C--P. Can't imagine the heat it took to do this.

That’s a drum from Nolting Machine. I believe they are machined from billet ductile iron. They can get so hot they are blue to the center and don’t crack. Check it for roundness and concentricity on a mandrel in the lathe. Probably won’t need any, but turn and grind it if it does. Bead blast the coloring off so its not a diagnostic issue next time its apart. And send it down the road.

What lining was he running - hard or Kevlar ?

I believe the issue would be what caused the drum to get overly hot and not any issue with the drum.
