Is there another manifold, perhaps an after market one, that would work?

This is a common issue with OFs

you can grind away some of the frame or put a slight cant on the manifold gland.

Is there a difference in early vs later intake manifolds?

I have an early aluminum intake on my 24 and have close to 1/4" clearance...

I once had similar problem fitting a larger SU carburetor to a MINI. I resolved it by making a tapered spacer to go between the carb and the manifold. IF you back off the carb mounting bolts so you can angle the rear of the carb towards the block, that will give you an idea of the thickness of spacer required. Aluminium is the easiest to work.

If you have other intake manifolds in your stash, you may find one which is a better fit, or you could work on the mounting faces at the ports to angle it closer to the block at the bottom.

Hope this helps.

Find someone with a large belt sander, large enough to sand both ports of the intake manifold at the same time. Sand the manifold so there is a slight angle on the ports..... you're goal is to leave the top of the ports where they are now, and remove a little at the bottom of the ports. The amount you remove with magnify quite a bit due to the length of the manifold intake; you'll probably be fine removing no more than 1/16" of an inch.

This is a fairly common problem, I ran into it with a repop aluminum manifold a few years ago. I don't remember which car it was on, but this was a quick and easy fix.

File a notch in the frame. Been there done that.

I used two crescent wrenches and bent the frame up just a bit. When I sold the car, without the OF, I just bent the frame back down. Could not tell it was ever modified. I’ve owned several OFs that had rub marks on them from this issue.

This is good to know. I am considering a Stromberg OF retrofit. I figured this would be a simple straight forward bolt on procedure. Now that I know there may be clearance issues, may reconsider.

Bob, I sure wouldn’t let it stop you. iMhO , it’s one of the best things you can do to make a noticeable improvement in how the T runs. All above are easy fixes, and there are plenty of installations that do not have any issue. T

Good advice Tim. Almost all of the OFs I've restored have some indication of frame interference. It must have been a problem from day 1. Either modify the intake or the frame, but don't let this stop you from using the Stromberg.

What type of manifold gaskets are used? Those newer all copper crush ones can make the manifold stand off the block somewhat.

Close up of your set-up shows the clamps a bit canted and alignment off some. Clamps on the exhaust manifold body instead of the flat spot on the manifold.

You may be able to get that intake to seat more flush with adjustment of gaskets and clamps?

Your manifolds from your photo.

Typical alignment of clamps, clamp tips even on each manifold flat spot.

Dan,
I did use the copper gaskets. I lined up the clamps and tighten them and just got enough room for it to miss the frame.

Thanks to all for advice.
