Santa Rosa Fire update. With the T, of course.
Thanks to everyone who has reached out with calls, emails and txt messages, it's a trying time for sure. We evacuated yesterday at 4am once we found out our house was surrounded on 3 sides by mandatory evacuations..
. .
The circle is my house. Fire is 10 miles away... not far when the wind is blowing 95mph in our direction. Tonight is more wind, so we are staying away. Traffic was a nightmare when evacuating, but I've been driving my T so much this summer that I know all the backroads and we avoided most of the mess. We ended up in Napa in a business park in the back of some buildings, the only place I could easily get in and out. We weren't here for an hour when a guy came up to me and asked if we were evacuees. He offered me a 30amp power plug and WiFi. People really do come together in times of need.
. .
Everyone is getting along, some folks even made new friends
. .
The bonus of bringing my T is at least I can take my mind off this crap and go for a drive. Napa is good for that. And I spent most of the day tuning the Winfield. The Car is running better than ever!
. .
Hopefully we'll head home Thursday or Fri. My asthma just can't handle the smoke.

Wait to come back Jeff. The winds died down, which is a great help for the fire fighters. The flip side is that the smoke just lingers and it's pretty thick right now.

I did not know there was a major fire in your area. One of the downsides of not watching the news anymore. Be careful and be safe.

You mentioned 10 miles. What is the terrain between? a valley uphill etc? I've been thru many CA fires and know what you are going thru, good luck.I remember back in 87 when we went for days without seeing the sun watching to see if the fire would crest the hill ready to evacuate (we were under mandatory evacuation). During that time we had 3 trucks back up to the house that were scared off once our dog barked and they realized someone was still there.

Glad you got out and with the motor home and T. Back in 03 We had to evacuate because of a fire and were gone 3 days. When we came back, fortunately the fire had come 100' from our house, but it was not burned. I had 2 T's in the garage which would have been burned if it had. We had cleared 100' the summer and in October the fire came.
Our son works for Marin County and had to work a 12 hour day yesterday. Sunday is usually one of his days off.
Hopefully, the fires will soon be out and your home will be standing.

That is so cool....warms the heart.
When things get horrible around here (Houston) with the weather (often), it really does bring out the best in people.

Keeping up with things out here in "unenlightened Califunny" is kind of spotty right now. We are in our fourth half-the-state-planned-shutdown of power in a month. However, Linda has been following some of the news on her smartphone, and it isn't good. I would add that this hasn't been fully confirmed, but the word is that the town of Gyserville, including the historic hotel, is a total loss.
I don't know where Admin Jeff's place is, but I know it isn't far from there.
A few other people we know are also in that area.
Jeff, We are hoping for you.

Jeff has been able to keep up with his duties here, which is good as we won't have to dock his pay this month!
Looks like you have a good place to hang out and nice of the guy to loan you power & wifi.

Jeff, Glad to see you have the T out and about even with the fire troubles. In over 40 years of knowing George and the T, I'd never seen it with the top down until this morning!

Re: Santa Rosa Fire update. With the T, of course.
phew. I was wondering how I'd pay rent...
We're finally back home after 4 days. I took the T for an extended drive around town today and it ran great.
I might head over to the shelters tomorrow if folks are still there and give the kids a ride.
Tons of power is still out all over the place. It was shocking how many stores had to throw away anything perishable. The refer shelves and freezers were all completely empty in three stores I went into. This must be an inkling of what it's like to live in Venezuela. No power, no supplies, etc. I think folks here are getting a sense of what it might be like if we were actually under socialist rule.

Glad to hear you are home and safe. I have been watching some coverage on the fires. Mother nature will win if she wants to. Cant imagine 70 mph wind driven fires!

Glad you are home, and VERY glad you have a home to go home to! I was getting worried from the news reports out of that area.

Mother nature won here in 2017, there were thousands of determined firefighters, air tankers, helicopters and law enforcement that would not allow her to win this week. And no fire related deaths.
