Maybe somebody has an unused, NOS main cap that they can measure?

Can't help with what they started out as but checking a couple of dozen, I come up with the thickest at 575 and thin 535.

I don't think that information is out there, no need for it other then the Ford Company, and Babbitters, like us.
The caps were all bought from the Ford Co., already poured, as you know.
I think we always used the standard thickness of 9/16, or .562-50, the same as the standard Ball cap hole.
As long as the hole is made round with shims, before the babbitt, shouldn't be any problems.

Why twice as many centre caps?
Because many a engine rebuild has ended up with a front bearing cap being used in the centre, therefore a surplus amount of centre caps turn up in collections. Which isn't a problem if the babbitting is done the full length to carry the crank jounal and match the block in bearing length.

The front and centre caps are different! I must go and check my stocks. I had never realised that.
