engine pan conversion
A couple of years ago there was a thread on changing the nose of a four dip pan to a narrow nose of a three dip pan. I was wonder if any one could repost that thread.
Thanks

Re: engine pan conversion
What is the main purpose of this modification? Is it to keep a early pan somewhat correct but better?

Re: engine pan conversion
Ralph, if the aim is to create a passable early pan out of a later one, there are other things to consider. later pans have the rolled edge all round the pan rail, the pressing shape at the wishbone ball mount is different, the pan arms are different, as is the casting at the rear. If we know your aim, we can steer you closer to the right direction.

I did one years ago for no other reason than to get at the number 4 rod easier if the need arose.

Re: engine pan conversion
If Gary would have put a nice teacup drain plug to be closer to originality, at first glance you would think it was an original early pan. Sure would cause a heck of a head scratching conversation some years from now in the peanut gallery. Lol. Frank

Re: engine pan conversion
Ralph,
Return email doesn't seem to be working for me so answer on here.
I had 2 stuffed pans, 1 of each, so no loss to cut them up. Measured and sliced in-between number 1 & 2 with a thin cutting disc in a 4" angle grinder, bolted the 2 pieces to a block and mig welded. Cut 2 dipper plates butt and weld. Cut a new gasket. It's been on my 16 for a few years now.

Re: engine pan conversion
I posted this but do not see these comments showing up, so please excuse if this is a duplication. The early style teacup can be retrofitted using the excellent turned repro cup sold by the vendors. This cup gets shortened and attaches with a threaded male nipple and JB Weld. Exterior gets body finished to hide the seam and existing mounting rivets. This conversion is fully functional and fully concealed except by removing the drain plug.

Re: engine pan conversion
I had a 4 dip with a cracked nose, and a narrow nose with a trashed transmission area. I wanted an easier way to reach the 4th main and have a narrow nose for appearance, so I put one together.
