modern connecting rods with insert bearings
Has anyone used these new rods from snyders? langs has them as well, langs web site says you need pressuzed oil system but snyders does not. They have a built in diper so i dont see why you would need pressurizd oil. thought i would give these a try tired of old bent and twisted rods lol.

I have fitted some up for other club members, no feed back on how they are running as yet. First your crank needs to be spot on, no room for error or ajustment, also I believe some of the insert bearing shells are no longer available, need to check that out.

with inserts, the babbit is very very thin. This makes them far less tolerant to debris in the gap. Original babbit bearings can digest a surprising amount of debris with little effect on the crank...not so much with modern shells. Along with pressurized bearings, they generally take a filter as well, thus reducing the suspended contaminants. I suspect that suppliers "requiring" this are acting in their own best interest to get the longest possible life out of their parts in their customers' cars. Knowing this, without an oil pump and filter, I personally do not see their use as an improvement in either performance or reliability.
Just recognize the limitations which come with the convenience, and for that matter, how do you quantify "convenience"?

I believe these bearing inserts are of a thicker design with thrusts built into them,modern tin copper babit bearings would not last long in a non pressurized system but i am only guessing because there in not much info on them.

A lot of Model A guys are going with inserts with no mods to the oil system. Hi mileage is at 60,000+ miles. My race car has all insert bearings, only about 2,000 miles on it now. It is a must to keep clean oil in it!. Model A's have an oil pump, but not a pressured system. It floods the lifter area that has oil passages to the mains and the rest flows to the front of the engine to the dipper tray.

You got me . I always weigh rods in Grams.
Had to get the scales out. The stock Ford rods I weighed were 14—15 oz.

You have to remember A's do not have band material floating around getting in to bearings, if you can filter the oil before it gets there great ideal then, I know years ago it does not take much to spin out an insert bearing.

Still waiting to hear from someone who has tried these rods , apparently they have sold out of the standard bearings so someone must be trying them
