Hi, I am failing the intelligence test of how to put the carb adjustment rod through the firewall. How does it go through that little slot? Fork side through or handle side through? How? At what angle? See pictures.

I failed that test twice. On the pickup I just cut the wedge thingy off and modified a bolt to be a knob on it.

You're suffering from the Repro-Rod Connundrum.
Reshape the top end like original and it will hook in through open end and slip up into place from the engine side of things, unless you have one which is also made from too-large diameter rod. If so, do what you think is proper for your car.
This photo courtesy of Dan Treace...the original is on the left and a bad repro is on the right:

I ran into the same thing on the '23TT years ago with the ropro rod. I finally just straightened out the handle end a bit till it would fit through the firewall and then bent it back. Worked for me. Dallas, have you tried to remove that rod yet? If so,and it wouldn't come out, now you know why.
