1915 engine

What would the price of a complete 15 engine cost if parts bought separately to replace the one you have Including trans and pan? MEL>

Bit of an open ended question, if your factoring new repro parts for the internals. If so add up new drums (1k), new pistons, rods, Scat crank, Stipe cam (4k), new hi compression head?, then other good used parts, crankcase, block, alum hogshead w pedals, perhaps another 2k, so maybe up to 7-8k.

Complete used 15 engines , worn parts that may not be useable, can be or used to be found for 350-1,000.

This one on eBay is offered on high end, some parts might not be correct or useable.

The hogshead would be aluminum on an early 15 and iron on a late 15.

As "open ended" as the question is (as Dan T put it), the answer is somewhere between a few hundred to nearly ten grand. A decent rebuildable block can sometimes be gotten for a bit under a hundred bucks (I gave about fifty for one about six years ago), or go up to nearly a thousand (although that is a bit over-priced these days for only a '15, only block). With each year earlier one goes, the price goes up rather quickly.
The '15 era narrow nose pan prices have been down lately. On my end of the continent, the '14/'15 style pans have been showing up in fixable condition for under a hundred dollars in the past year. I paid closer to 150 for mine about seven years ago. Ones in rough but fixable condition have even been around fifty lately. Ones in nice condition, already properly straightened, can be worth about five hundred. Internal parts can vary a lot also. Do you want mostly correct '15 internals? Are '20s internals alright with you? What about the crankshaft? Original era? Later EE? Or maybe better yet a nice new Scat?
I still think I could scrape up a good running '15 engine, reasonably correct looking, worked over and ready for several thousand miles of touring, for just under a grand (on the cheap). But I do all my own refitting, and make do with good used parts.

Wayne

Think you could do that with good searching at swaps, or collecting favors from other T buddies, who like to part with stuff ;)

In 2012 ran across a couple of engines, at bargain price for all. A complete '15 and a rough '17, along with a '22 that I put to use. Sold this '15 to friend for $350 and parted out the '17, leaving the '22 free and clear.

The 2012 sold '15, ribbed pedals, good trans drums, original cast iron pistons and valves, narrow nose pan was nice too.
