CUSTOMER APPRECIATION SALE
AFTER 47 YEARS NO ONE HAS COME FORWARD TO PURCHASE OUR THRIVING BUSINESS. WE HAVE BEEN TOO SUCCESFUL AND NO ONE CAN AFFORD TO BUY IT NOW. SO, WE HAVE DECIDED TO CEASE PRODUCTION OF ALL RUCKSTELL PARTS, CAMSHAFTS, HIGH VOLUME INTAKE MANIFOLDS AND ALL OF THE OTHER 300 PARTS THAT WE MANUFACTIURED FOR THE MODEL T FORD.
IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE TO SERVE YOU AND THE HOBBY AND I WANT TO THANK ALL OF MY LOYAL CUSTOMERS AND DEALERS. BUT AT 84 I NEED TO STOP AND ENJOY LIFE. SO, WE HAVE DECIDED TO LIQUIDATE OUR ASSETS.
ALL INDIVIDUAL PARTS IN INVENTORY EXCEPT TIRES WILL BE OFFERED TO THE PUBLIC AT THE FOLLOWING DISCOUNTS:
Qty. 1-9 20%
Qty. 10 OR MORE 30%
NO BACK ORDERS. SALES WILL BE FINAL AND PAYMENT MUST BE BY CASH OR CHECK. NO CREDIT CARDS.
OUR PRODUCTION ASSETS, PATTERNS, TOOLING, DRAWINGS AND RECORDS WILL BE AVAILIABLE TO ANY INTERESTED PARTY WITH ONE SAMPLE OF EACH PART. FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. GLEN

A sad day indeed for the hobby. And an even sadder sign of the economic times our foolish politics have put our country into.
Glen does need to retire and enjoy his cars for a change.

I'm sorry to hear about this, however, I can understand why you want to liquidate. Too bad no one has come forward to buy you out. You have done more than I could ever attempt to help keep our cars running. I hope someone will continue to manufacture parts for our Ruckstell axels.
I also realize that this hobby is perhaps unique to our generation, because we either grew up with the Model T's or saw them being used as everyday drivers when we were young.
Enjoy your retirement, you have earned it.
Norm

You sent me a nice catalog and I use it regular as reference and at some point in Febuary I will be calling to get a few parts.I am sorry to read that you are closing shop as it is a great loss to the hobby. But at 84,my dad being 85,I can understand where you are coming from about wanting to enjoy retirement.
For goodness saks don't do 1 thing my dad did at 84.He picked up a cross word puzzle book and now that is his main habit.Sitting around doing cross word puzzles. Don't stop being active ,it aint good for you.

Hard to believe this hasn't generated more discussion. Hard to believe the business is closing but happy Glen will have time to enjoy life.
Thanks for all you have contributed to this hobby.

Somehow I missed this. I hate to see this loss to the Model T world, but I understand. I'm sorry there was nobody to carry it on.

Sad to hear but I understand.
We're a decade out of sync...another 8-10 years and I'll most likely be retired, with a pile of $, looking for something to do.

Ahh, if we only had the space and time and manufacturing resources you have down in Corona up here in the (currently frosty) north state... And of course, a healthy pile of cash... losing you and your business will be a hard pill to swallow, but yeah, I absolutely understand wanting to enjoy life, and not be tied down to a business... everything you've done for the hobby to keep our babies alive is beyond appreciaed, Glen...

Glen, I too am very sad these days are here. I want to sincerely thank you for what you have done. Something that I want to say is; even thinking about doing what you have done scares the bajesus out of most people. I'm sure that if someone did step up you could get them pointed in the correct direction and could help them get started in the manufacturing business and help with sources and resources , so they could succeed.
For now , after reading your post, does this mean that you are not taking credit cards for any purchases?
Time eventually passes us up , or drives us over , It is sad!! Again Glen, SINCERE THANKS!!!!

Is there a price list of available production assets and parts manufacturing packages you are willing to sell? Maybe some of the retired guys would take on the possibility of continuing to make a few parts?

YES THE PRODUCTION ASSETS ARE AVAILABLE BUT NOT CHEAP. ALL WE WANT IS WHAT WE HAVE INVESTED $150,000.00. THAT INCLUDES 1 SAMPLE OF EACH MAJOR PART. YOU COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PATTERNS AND TOOLING THAT WE HAVE TODAY FOR WHAT WE PAID. WE REPRODUCED OVER 300 PARTS FOR THE MODEL T. THE HOBBY WILL BE HURTING IF THEY ALL DISAPPEAR. GLEN

Chaffins Garage has done us Model T guys a tremendous service for many years. There is one man who has not gotten enough credit over the years, and that is Dave. He is a no B.S. type of guy and he knows his stuff!

Are you going to separate the production assets for individual sale depending on particular part? It might be more affordable to someone if separated into everything needed to make an individual part?

I want to give Glen a big THANK YOU for being a great vendor over the past thirty years!! In 1989, when my dad passed, Glen called me and offered his condolences, but then asked me if I was going to pick up my dad's leather business. Dad had been selling leather products to Glen over the years. I told Glen that I would give it a try, and the rest is history. I've been producing leather products for Model T's since 1989, and I would not have even thought about it if it weren't for Glen.
Glen, Thanks so much, and thanks for all you have done for the Model T hobby!!! You are an asset to all Model T restorers and owners. Enjoy your retirement, and if you want some advice on which cruise line to travel on, give me a call!!!

As a younger member of the hobby (late 20s), this makes me pretty sad. I had been monitoring Glen's attempted sale of his company and even briefly looked into it myself. A few people had mentioned that some of the younger members (20s/30s) would have to "take up the mantle" so to speak to keep businesses like this alive; but as much as I would love to be part of the hobby on a professional level, it's a pipe dream to think that somebody my age would be able to afford to take that kind of risk. The economic opportunity for younger people just isn't there like it used to be. I am lucky that I can afford to own a car like this at all, with many of my contemporaries struggling just to exist sometimes. With the state of the hobby as it is (related businesses closing and expertise being lost left and right), the prospects look grim indeed for everyone. Even though it might not last for another 20 years or so, I consider myself extremely fortunate that I can be part of the hobby at all.
I haven't owned my T for that long, but I have been almost exclusively buying parts from Chaffin's as they in my area and provide excellent quality parts. I don't blame Glen for wanting to retire, and I think it's admirable that he has worked well into his 80s to provide parts for us. Thanks for your hard work and dedication Glen.

IT ALSO MAKES ME SAD THAT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS WE MUST CLOSE DOWN THE BUSINESS. ESPECIALLY SINCE WE ARE THE ONLY VIABLE DEALER IN THE WESTERN UNITED STATES. BUT WORSE YET IF SOMEONE DOESN'T BUY OUR MANUFACTURING BUSINESS ALL OF THE 300 PARTS THAT WE MANUFACTURE WILL DISAPPEAR. THE HOBBY SHOULD REMAIN POPULAR UNLESS SOME POLITICAL HACK DECIDES THAT THEY WANT TO BAN ALL OF THE OLD CARS FROM THE ROAD. I HOPE THAT NEVER HAPPENS BUT WE LIVE IN A TIME WHERE YOUR PERSONAL RIGHTS HAVE NO WORTH TO THEM. GLEN

Emails sent 1/9, 1/14, and spoke to Dave 2 weeks ago on the phone with a plan to hear back in a week (1 week ago).
Frustrating as I am guessing what I am looking for is now long gone.
Wishing everyone the best at Chaffin's and their customer base.

Glen and Dave, Garrett Green and I want to say THANKS!
We took a run out to Chaffins to pick up some things that we might need someday and came home with a nice collection of parts and at a great price as well.
Now is the time for a wise Model Ter to take a look at their car and Glens catalog and make a list. This special sale will not last forever and some parts will become very hard to find sometime in the future. There are still lots and lots of parts on the shelves so don't think it's not worth calling Dave to place an order!
Thanks Glen for the super discounts and for all the support you have been to the Model T hobby! Good Luck to ya when you do finally get a chance to retire!!
