Wonder if the driver was OK when he jumped out!

I remember seeing a ad or something about open cars being safer because you could be thrown to safety instead being trapped inside a closed car.

Likely true at speeds under 30 on dirt roads. I’ve read several accounts of fatalities owing to injuries from breaking plate glass. On the other hand, I’ve also read more than a few accounts of fatalities involving open cars. Best idea is to keep the rubber side down and the brassy side up !!

I'm trying to imagine what he hit or what hit him. It seems like a boxcar might be the right height to give damage to the upper parts like that.
I'm guessing that is a 1911. It does show some details we don't see in an undamaged car.

Rich, I think you’re right. First off I was thinking “roll over” but the damage seems to fit colliding with a moving train, especially the broken rear wheel. 1911 sure fits.

The little guy at rear seems really amused ; “Oh boy !! Wrecked car !! My favorite thing !!”

Circus posters in the barn behind him are mighty interesting.

Obviously, the bald front tires lost traction and he couldn’t steer when the front wheels locked up on a hard stop....

The painting on the barn is cool.
