Ford Motor Co., and Henry Ford experienced many strategic events during the first years of the company’s existence. 1903 saw company formation. 1904 saw continued growth, still selling the venerable Model A. 1905, arguably saw unparalleled growth, with the advent of three models, the first four cylinder model, and two 100% dividends paid to investors.
1905 was also the first year of Henry Fords six cylinder racer. He began design of his six cylinder racer in late 1903, with the first test coming at Ormond Beach in January 1905. On June 8, 1905, newspapers announced that Henry Ford was challenging for the Dewar Trophy, awarded to the fastest racer over a one mile distance.
