I’m not sure if this is permissible to list here, but I’m looking to buy a dual axle, open trailer for short hauling my Model T. Ideally, it would be 7x14, decent tires and ramps included and ready to haul: not interested in fixer uppers. Preferably located in the Metro Detroit area. 7x16 trailer would work as well.

Well, a trailer is a vehicle. Used trailers, like what you are looking for, is hard to find. If the trailer is for short trips, a single axle trailer might fit your needs. If you are planning to haul heavy items like firewood, a two axle trailer would be needed.

Hey Bill! I assume you've already done the "google search"?
Gotta be bunches of trailer dealers within 50 miles of you. I assume you're looking for a used one? Might also try contacting any landscape contractors/retailers, as they just may have one that's worthy of looking at. Only thing with those is, the ramps are usually what I call an "open web" type with cross-bars of angle iron, and trust me those are difficult to run a Model T up on! But getting them adapted or getting ramps with solid plating on won't be that difficult.

Thanks Tim, I appreciate the input! I’ve actually found a lot of decent trailers near enough to investigate, mostly 16’ ones. For stowing in the off season months, I’d prefer a dual axle 7x14, but they are hard to find. As for driving my T up any trailer ramp, I’m done with that experience! I’ll invest in a reliable, heavy duty electric winch and gently pull her aboard! I’ve seen other T owners with this set up on open trailers and believe me, that’s the only way to go!

Good to hear Bill. And yeh, I get what you say about winching. Particularly if you're on a "shorter trailer", it's safer to slowly winch it than trying to drive it uphill with the necessary speed only to have to come to an almost "panic stop"!! Per my post on your trailer poll, if you haven't seen it, I wonder if it's possible to buy one of those fantastic U-Haul open trailers? They truly are probably the best around, by design. Just a thought.

I did a web search, and U-Haul only sells older cargo trucks, but not open trailers. When one becomes too old or worn, U-Haul takes them apart and scraps them

Bill Give me a call. Have an 18' tandem axle car trailer, good condition, aluminum ramps and winch. Want to sell. I used it to haul my T and A for many years. Jon Crane Shelby Twp 248 650 1133

Hi Jon; thanks for the information. Unfortunately, due to lack of storage area 18’ would be too big for me. Even 16’ would probably be too much as well, but could possibly work. Ideally, 14/15 feet would be best.

Bill
Trailers do take a lot of room for storage. Add in driving over the grass, changing hitches and wring each time you sell or buy a vehicle, and routine maintenance and, insurance and you might do better renting from U Haul for the couple of times each year that you need it.

don't forget that an enclosed trailer makes a fair garage in the off driving months. Mine keep out mice, weather, and free up other storage.
