3017B timing cover adaptor
I need an adaptor so that I can use my 1914 timing cover on a rebuilt 1920 engine. If you have one that you want to sell please contact me. Thank You, John

Re: 3017B timing cover adaptor
Adrian,
He is looking for the casting that Ford used 1919-1921 when the starter/generator blocks were first introduced. Initially the casting that held the generator cost significantly more than the casting that could be used on a non-starter block. For a detailed explanation of cost of 3017 vs 3017 see the posting at: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/118802/153324.html And the photos and info below are from that posting -- Thanks to Corey Walker for posting them.
I agree with Andre that Model T Haven would likely have that part. It doesn't wear out and if the block freezes it doesn't crack that casting. Photos are a little out of order -- I'm still working on getting them in the place I want them. But I need to stop and do the yard.
Good luck with your search and your project.
Respectfully submitted,

That is a rare part. Most time they sell for a lot. I have sold every one I have ever got. I can look for another one if you want. Will take a few days. Dan

Re: 3017B timing cover adaptor
Hi Hap, glad to hear from you, trust that you and yours are safe.
My thoughts were to build up a part from two sections of plate, bending and welding a curved section to a flat backing. It may need a third bit to bolt to the block. It would be a bit of engineering work, but possibly be a way forward to solve the issue until a genuine part can be found.
Cheers
Adrian

Adrian,
We are doing fine (funny as we get older we don't say we are doing great ... just we are doing fine
.
My bad, when you said "plate steel" I read "steel plate" and was thinking you meant the "generator block off plate" part number 3017-D in the illustration from the price list of parts. (Lang's photo at: https://www.modeltford.com/item/3017.aspx )
Best to you and yours.
