FS- Early 1913 Engine - Rebuilt

Post by skeiss » Sun Feb 17, 2019 11:05 am

For Sale
Strong running and driving early 1913 powerplant with good quality older rebuild. Currently set up with later electric start. Engine starts and runs well on magneto. Low head, aluminum pistons, tight babbit / bearings, later straight throw crankshaft, drums / bands transmission in great condition. Has slightly newer bronze body Holley G carb., Currently sitting in a later (20's) frame. Has newer hogs head / pedals and three dip pan. Have flushed cooling system, but would hurt to do again.
Can yard driven / jacked up and run.
The powerplant was rebuilt for a depot hack project that never progressed beyond the engine rebuild frame stage. No title.
If desired, the frame is included (less tubes/tires, demountabe rims and gas tank).

VIN #: 186901
Cast date: 10-27-1912

Asking $4500.00 OBO. Local pickup only from Wellington Colorado, 80549

Thank you,
Steve

Charley, The length of the raised portion where the serial number is stamped was changed to the length shown in the photo in late 1916 when the numbers were seven digits long. The 1915 engine in my coupelet has a much shorter raised portion. There are other items that indicate this may be a later block.
I hope this helps.

Should have a number on the right side of block below the valve cover, I have seen 1-5 there, Good eye Russ!

I have included a photo of the back of the block for review. I would like to verify the year of the block as I was going from the engine number and casting date.
In response to the question on piston size, I have not pulled the head and don't know if the pistons are oversize.
Thank you.

Sure looks like a later block with a #2 welded or patched in at the end of the casting date. Notice the raised portion stops at #1. As Charly pointed out there is no lip at the end of the block above the magneto post.
Still looks like a nice chassis for the price.

The water jacket at the rear of the block indicates it is a later block. Early 1913 and late 1912 blocks had a "lip" where the block meets the head at the water jacket. I would check the "2" on the "12" casting date to see if it is a "faux" number (just scrape it a little). From what I see, the block is probably a 1916-1918 block.
I hope this helps,

BTW, the engine pan is also a later pan, not a "needle nose" pan.
