WTB 30 x 3-1/2 Universal tire

Post by R.V.Anderson » Mon Aug 31, 2020 8:14 pm

Need a good used (preferably at least 50% tread remaining) straight rib. After 44 years one of mine finally blew the clinch off the sidewall. Thanks!

RV, I experienced that problem on 1 Universal out of a set of 4 that I bought around 1991. The tire was incorrectly made. There was no fabric holding the bead to the casing. The tire was maybe 5 years old, was on a perfect rim, had well over a thousand miles on it with occasional speeds of around 60. It blew out parked on the grass at a car show about 45 minutes after we arrived after about 3 hours driving. The clincher bead blew off the outside bead of the tire and was separated from the casing for about half its circumference.

Interesting! I will have to check mine. In my case I was heading through an intersection after the light change; suddenly felt like I'd run over a couple speed bumps. Then a bang that is probably still echoing around the buildings down there. I haven't tossed the tire yet; probably won't. No true T guy ever tosses any T part no matter how worthless! My shop will testify to that.
