FS: all brass 3 screw Holley carburetor

Post by al8apex » Fri Sep 11, 2020 2:06 pm

An item my dad had hanging from the rafters forever

Is is worth $280? $350? $175? $85? $4?, take it to the recycling center? How much?
Let me know your ideas, thanks!

Located in Scottsdale, AZ 85260

newbie recommended by my lifelong friend, Dave Longstreth, aka pre10

Dave had met my dad 20 years before my father passed, they were on the same wavelength regarding Model T's and Dave helped my sell my dad's 1915 roadster in 1998, telling me it was the best driving Model T he ever drove ... ok, enough of my introduction, back to the carburetor

thanks for any insight, considerations

For god sake don't recycle it.
Doesn't matter what it's worth.

According to Bruce McCalley, this is the typical 1915 style Holley Model G.

I don't know how good they are, or what issues they may have had, but I see asking prices for more common Holley Gs up around two hundred. That seems a bit high to me, but I have been around for quite awhile and not followed current prices much. I do remember when good ones could be had for ten bucks. What I usually see are asking prices. I rarely hear what they sell for.
I am not an expert on them, and without looking closer didn't notice a couple details I do know. But yours does appear to be one of the earlier versions of the Holley G. By far MOST of them had steel bowls. Good brass bowls are a bit rare. And bowls can be swapped around. Many of the earliest Gs have had steel bowls used to replace brass bowls that have cracked beyond reasonable repair. Another good part of yours is the mixture adjuster (the long thing in the center with the round part on top). The round part on top was used on earlier carburetors and only the earliest of Holley Gs. Basically, a 1915 only detail. Later ones were more of a "T" shape, with a simple small bar and two holes, one at each end. Again, that part can be modified or replaced by an earlier one, so that detail does not mean it is a genuine 1915 carburetor.
IF (my big IF again) it is a genuine '15, and in good internal condition, it should be worth a bit more than the common later Holley Gs.
As for value"? I really can't give you any more than I already have.

Looking at it again, I notice that the brass bowl appears to have been repaired and strengthened by adding a brass band around near the top. That would reduce the value a little bit.

thanks, this would all make sense as we DID have an early 1915 Roadster, it was his favorite car.

Yes, the band is there, appears to be an VERY old school fix for the cracking issues apparently that these are plagued with

the $50 offer seems low, would like to find it a good home as this one hung from the rafters in the shop in the basement forever and I "rescued it" maybe a year or so after he passes (1997) and it has been sitting on the shelf here since, as it is a "neat" looking shelf item (way better than a Hummel)

so how about $125 shipped within the US?
