RV offers that service at an additional cost with his rebuilt field coils.

Larry, As far as I know, all the TR coils from Minnesota came with that already done too.

Interesting that you both mention that as Lang's didn't have any for this customer and there was a delay in getting them reground.
I am posting this for people so they don't have to wait.

Question John: are you grinding the four mounting locators prior to facing off the poles or visa-versa ?

All I can say is this is absolutely necessary if you are planning to set it up with the proper gap. Glad someone else is offering it.

I'm just machining the mag faces: I check the bolt bosses and make sure there's no burrs on them and then secure it to machine and take enough to get it true. So far I haven't found a Mag plate off on the bolt bosses to cause an issue. They are secured on machine same setup as on engine.

Only issue I can see occurring is if the block bosses get distorted which after 93-100 year old iron is going to move.
Even still this one shown in picture was off over .010" and made it impossible for customer to get right.

We hate to wait to get things done as it holds up everyone . We're providing this service so people don't have to wait.

Thanks John - I have found more than one casting "tweeked" a bit most likely from rough handling. I check coils on my surface plate, poles down and check for "any daylight" showing beneath any of them before using a depth gauge to check each mounting boss just to verify.

I just got my mag ring back from J&M Machine. As always they did a great job. I was having a heck of I time getting the gap right. You can see my post "Getting Rattles back on the Road". Not only were there some contacts that were high some were high in on one part of the contact and lower on the other. I don't have a lot of experience but my thinking is that you want to get this gap as close to perfect as you can so you don't have issues down the road. So if you have a ring that you are rebuilding yourself or a good ring you just want to true up send it over to J&M. They will make it right.
