Be sure to never come in contact with or inhale fumes from the contents of these extinguishers. It is Carbon Tetrachloride. A cancer causing carcinogen that was outlawed in the 1970's.

Carbon Tetrachloride also produces Phosgene gas when exposed to fire, which is heavier than air & does kill the fire but it is also a deadly poison. In WWI it was known as "Mustard Gas" & intentionally killed 80,000 of our men. As Chris said it has been outlawed.

Gee, My Dad was a farmer who had a grain storage facility. He had a box containing 9 softball sized, sealed glass globes filled with red colored Carbon Tetrachroride that dates back to the 1940's, that he kept in the grain storage facility to use in case of fire. Fortunately , he never had a fire there, and never had to use them. I, still have them in the original box. Although they are antiques, I wonder what I should do with them?
