Are they nickel? Chrome? Polished brass?

They are not magnetic so am assuming they are made of brass. Silver in color so how do I tell if they are nickel or chrome??

Layden, Unless they have been re-plated, they are not likely to be chromed. Chroming came in after this type of cover was largely discontinued.

Allan,
I am trying to answer David's question. Just looking at them I cannot tell chrome or nickel.
Being reproduction they could have been made correctly nickel or incorrectly chrome!
Can you distinguish between the 2 just by looking at them? If so what are the clues?

I have also received an email asking if these fit Lang's #383 stems.
https://www.modeltford.com/item/ST3-3/8.aspx
The part description says 1/2" but the part number indicates 3/8" and these measure .370" inside the nut.
I don't think any of that matches up with original Schrader #777 stems which are .406".

These 383 valve steam is the same thread as a Schrader valve 724 or 725 which is a .482-26 thread.

Layden, they look like nickel to me. Such items are usually barrel plated. That is they are tumbled during plating, rather than polished and individually plated. Hence they do not have a highly polished reflective surface. Chrome plating has a blue hue, rather than the yellowish colour of nickel. but unless the two are side by side, it is more difficult to tell. The colour difference is much like the warm light/cool light variation between yellow incandescent and blue LED lights.
